Modular transportation is a new thing in my country. Its concept was introduced from Europe and the United States, where logistics are well developed. At present, my country's modular transportation research is more based on the European Modular System (EMS). For example, the mid-axle freight train that has been put into operation and testing has imitated European vehicles in terms of specifications and dimensions.
You can refer to the existing mid-axle vans in China to understand the concept of modular transportation: a longer and heavier car train is formed by several standardized load units (cargo chassis, trailer, and van) for combined transportation, and each loading module can also be transported separately. Therefore, in addition to being able to achieve a large load capacity, the advantage of modular transportation lies in its flexibility, which can develop more efficient logistics applications.
In Europe, the combination of modular transportation is very diverse. In addition to the mid-axle trains that can be seen in my country now, namely "truck + mid-axle trailer", there are also "tractor + semi-trailer + mid-axle trailer", "truck + trolley + semi-trailer", and even "tractor + semi-trailer + trolley + semi-trailer". In addition, there are also full trailer combinations, and so on.
